QunaSys Develops Foundational Algorithms with Mitsubishi Electric for Quantum Computing Applications in Manufacturing

QunaSys Inc. (“QunaSys”), a quantum computing software company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, has jointly developed two foundational algorithms with Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (“Mitsubishi Electric”) to advance the use of quantum computing in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) for product design and development.

CAE uses computer-based simulations of physical phenomena such as fluid flow, heat, structural behavior, and electromagnetic fields to support product design and performance evaluation. As products become increasingly sophisticated, manufacturers require larger and more accurate simulations, creating growing interest in the future use of quantum computers for CAE.

These algorithms address key challenges in applying quantum computing to CAE: reducing the computational resources required for quantum calculations and improving calculation accuracy.

The first algorithm organizes large-scale matrix data used in CAE into a form that can be handled more efficiently by quantum computers, reducing the computational resources required to perform quantum calculations.
The second algorithm enables parameters required for quantum circuit design to be determined more reliably, helping improve the accuracy of quantum calculations.

Together, these technologies represent a step toward large-scale matrix calculations that take advantage of the capabilities of quantum computers. In the future, quantum-enabled CAE could support applications such as comparing a large number of design conditions at an early stage of product development and conducting highly accurate performance evaluations involving complex physical phenomena.

Part of this research was conducted under the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) Moonshot Research and Development Program, Moonshot Goal 6.
