QunaSys Joins a Leading European Consortium to Advance Sustainable Battery Innovation with Quantum Computing

17 Feb  2025, Copenhagen

QunaSys is pleased to announce its participation in the FULL-MAP project, a European Union-funded initiative aimed at revolutionizing battery technology through AI, big data, autonomous synthesis robotics, and high-throughput testing. As part of this effort, QunaSys will leverage its expertise in quantum machine learning to enhance the modelling and simulation of electrolytes, anodes and cathodes, enabling more efficient and data-driven discovery of novel materials for next-generation batteries.

The FULL-MAP (Furthering the Development of a Materials Acceleration Platform for Sustainable Batteries) project unites 32 organizations, including leading universities, research institutions, and industry partners across Europe. Coordinated by Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), the consortium aims to accelerate the development of high-performance and environmentally sustainable battery materials through computational and experimental innovations.

QunaSys's Role in the Project

In this project, QunaSys will apply its expertise in quantum computing and quantum machine learning to enhance computational methodologies for battery material discovery. By leveraging quantum algorithms, QunaSys aims to improve the accuracy of electrolyte simulations, model anode and cathode materials at the atomic scale, and optimize battery interfaces for greater stability and efficiency. Its quantum-assisted multiscale simulations bridge atomic-scale quantum mechanical insights with continuum-level modeling, helping to overcome computational bottlenecks in battery research, particularly in understanding electrode-electrolyte interfaces, ionic transport, and degradation processes.

Driving Innovation for Sustainable Energy Storage

The project represents a major step forward in the European Union’s push to develop next-generation energy storage solutions that meet the growing demands of electric vehicles and renewable energy adoption. By combining computational power, AI-driven workflows, and quantum computing techniques, QunaSys and its partners seek to shorten the battery material discovery cycle, improve battery efficiency, and drive sustainable innovation in the energy sector.

“At QunaSys, we believe quantum computing will be a game-changer in materials discovery, and we are excited to contribute our expertise to the FULL-MAP project. By integrating quantum simulations with AI and high-throughput screening, we aim to accelerate the discovery of next-generation battery materials, driving innovation in sustainable energy storage solutions,” commented Erik Stangerup, CEO of QunaSys Europe.
